Jesús Carrete Rodríguez

He was born on April 12, 1952 in Pinar del Río, Cuba. He studied at the Provincial School of Plastic Arts in Pinar del Río. He worked as a sign maker and muralist in the Provincial Propaganda Company of his city. He is a graduate of Construction Drawing Medium Technician. He is currently developing his work as a graphic designer at the “Rafael María de Mendive Daumy” Higher Pedagogical Institute. He is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). He also leads a community project of enormous social impact (Grabadown) to help young boys and girls with Down Syndrome to develop in the art of engraving.

The thematic exhibitions of the prolific artist address the themes of idiosyncrasy, family, hope, women, symbols, as heirs of the Patakines, fables, feelings and illusions that, combined with virtuosity and mastery, have germinated hundreds of engravings and canvases from the observation of his environment, the universe that surrounds him and the artist’s experiences.

His work, as life itself is so rich and varied that summarizing themes in a monolithic way has been a difficult task, however (and at the risk that other themes have been excluded) it is evident that his work is marked by Erotismo, Símbolos, Viaje a la Esperanza, Idiosincracia, Mujeres and Ilusiones Compartidas.

Grabadown project recognition “with love and hope” in the city of Pinar del Río. Cuba
